We have done some remodeling on our house this year. We added a sunroom (it is our "playroom" - we had to have more space not because we have a child, but because the child has toys!), built two small decks, and remodeled the kitchen with new cabinets (go Ikea) and new appliances. We also rearranged rooms because Luka moved to a big boys room (we call it the "green" room because it has, well, green walls) and I needed more space for my hobbies and less for a home office. So my fabrics has been living in huge boxes since the summer. There is still a lot of things to do, remodeling does not just happen over night - it's an ongoing process, but recently I have started thinking about how to organize my craft room. And, I realized that I have way too much fabrics! Actually, I want to get more, but I have to clean up some of the stash to make room. I decided to offer the best fabrics for sale on etsy. I don't have a lot of yardage, it will mostly be 1/2 yards or fat quarters. Maybe I even add quilt squares... we'll see. It will be good for sash building for people like me who like to have a lot of variety vs a lot of yardage. Here is what I made available yesterday (all are Robert Kaufman prints except for 2). I will be posting more soon.
I spent a week in New Jersey for business a few years ago. All I can remember is trying to find the right exit of a highway. Everything was off of a highway - my hotel, the building where I worked, the restaurants... There was a grocery store on ther other side of the highway that I wanted to get to, but I couldn't get off the highway at just any exit, I had to find one that also had a u-turn bridge. It was frustrating.
But, it seems that New Yersey is not all about highway exits (well, maybe I shouldn't go that far - check the name of the park!). Here is a beautiful hike that I have to check out the next time I am in Jersey or New York: Palisades Interstate Park (from NYTimes today). Also check the slide show.
...for today’s New Yorkers and New Jerseyans, especially those who like to hike, the Palisades’ resort-to-forest transformation has been a good thing.
It has resulted in terrain that has a range of pleasant and not-too-strenuous hikes across a roughly 11-mile-long swath, and whose sharp ridges sometimes soar 52 stories above the river below. And the trails can be reached by a short bus ride from Manhattan.
This season seems to be best to explore the Palisades. Compared with the height of summer, when I first visited, the paths late last month were quiet, almost empty...
The winner of the 2007 Man Booker Prize - The Gathering by Anne Enright:
The Gathering is a family epic. It is also a sexual history: tracing the line of hurt and redemption through three generations - starting with the grandmother, Ada Merriman - showing how memories warp and family secrets fester. This is a novel about love and disappointment, about thwarted lust and limitless desire, and how our fate is written in the body, not in the stars.
I picked up a magazine today at the grocery store because I liked the front page! I don't do it often, especially without browsing through it - but I did not have much time. It is the winter issue of Do It Yourself - they really do have some interesting ideas and actual plans for some of the projects. Their website is also worth visiting - the picture above shows a storage bench they have free, downloadable plans for. And I was actually looking for a bench like this for our entry. All of the plans I have looked through are for beginner or beginner/intermediate woodworker, but they seem to require some heavy duty tools. But still, this will be on my to-do list.
